Rain rain go away.....

It's become kind of like a tradition that after every weekend I try to compile some pictures that I've taken over the past week and weekend and try to sum up what the last week was like for me.  Hmm, it's only Monday today and last week seems like forever ago. (side note: I wish everything else in life that don't seem like things I'm very fond of can all be memories of the distant past that are only seldom revisited.)  Last week, this island of Taiwan received a lot of rain and I spent many a nights last week either with the legs of my pants drenched and toes freezing or getting soaked on one side while I stand waiting for my bus to go home from class at 10:30pm.  Other than that, school wise, I was pretty productive. I did a presentation on the limits of the definition of the state (Haha... it's so boring) and wrote an abstract on how communication developments in the People's Republic of China might have some correlation with its market growth. (also, highly boring).  All in all it was a productive week both at work and at school.

On to more fun things that happened over the weekend. Seriously, you all have to watch "The Lady".  It's such an awesome movie and it makes me sad that it did not get very good reviews. It's a movie so of course there are the cliche movie "must-have's" in it, but all in all, I think it depicts Aung San Suu Kyi's story from a human perspective and tackles many family issues especially for the families of policymakers, activists, and others as such.  I went to the movies with my French friend Jerome, and it was awesome but I think I cried like every 15 minutes of the movie. Haha. I swear, somebody let the faucet running on my eyes. As I get older, I tear up at the craziest things, whether it be movies, news, or anything for that matter.  I'll try not to spoil the movie for you, but let me just say, the lady's husband is the ideal guy for an aspiring woman to marry. (just sayin'... LoL)

I've been battling this really bad cold that I've had since last Friday and it does not seem to be going away. I'm popping tylenol and penicillin every 7am, 11am, 4pm, and 9pm and I still have it. Granted I have not been getting much sleep lately cause of my insomnia (I diagnosed myself insomniac) and still have to wake up fairly early to make it to other commitments. I'm getting even lesser sleep because of my stuffy nose that I end up just waking up in the middle of the night and sitting on my bed trying to figure out the best way to get myself to breathe comfortably so I can go back to sleep. (B, if you're reading this, I need some Ambien CR or benadryl... LoL)

Anyway, I'm stealing time away from the office to finish up this post. I will post the pictures tonight when I get home. So, for now, read up on this very scatter-brained post of mine until I post more pictures. Haha. Take care all!!!

Holiday KTV

"....Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me, oh, twice on the pipe, if the answer is no."  Remember that song that's always sung in karaoke bars everywhere? Well, it was sung beautifully last night yet again at the famous Taiwan Holiday KTV. This is something I've done a few times here in Taiwan that's easily become one of my top 10 must do in Taiwan. Yes, you can sing karaoke almost anywhere in the world, but what makes the Taiwan experience slightly different. So here's how it goes. KTV is a little different from most karaoke nights in the bars in the US. (Karaoke like the ones in the US would be referred to as OK in Taiwan, different from KTV) There are many different rooms with couches and a huge plasma screen tv where a party can go in and the rates are different for the number of hours that you stay. So for instance, last night there were about 11 of us friends (from Germany, Colombia, US, Palau) that went to a Holiday KTV. So we got in ...

Reflections of My Father

On the eve of the seventh anniversary of my father’s passing, I cannot help but reflect on the life he lived, the father he was to me, and the years that have passed that I have been without him. My father was, is, and will always be my greatest inspiration, my greatest motivation and my most humble foundation, my Bapa Udi. Anyone who knew my father, can attest to his consistency, his discipline, his dependability, and soft-hearted nature. My father was… Welcoming My earliest memory of my father was in a full home, our home with 5 doors that all opened at sunrise and closed only when the house turned in for the night. In this home we all lived, my parents, all my siblings, several cousins, and my maternal grandparents, all of whom stayed with us – and regular visits and sleepovers by my paternal grandparents. I remember that when my father was around, which he always was, he made sure there was food and coffee and that everyone was well-fed and taken care of. The fi...

Birthday Reflection 2024

Thank you.  Every year on our birthdays, my bestie Ribka and I reflect on the past year of our lives and envision what we would like to see in our lives in the next year.  In reflecting, I remembered in particular, a day that I parked in front of my house after a long day at work and continued to sit in the car with tears rolling down my face uncontrollably. I was scheduled to travel that night and I had not packed and it was an early flight. But it felt on that day that I was just failing at everything and I felt completely helpless.  Something caught my eye, and when I turned around, Ribka had just parked next to my car and got out and walked to the driver side of my car and I did not even realize it. It’s like I saw an angel. Actually, I did see an angel. She was my hope that God sent right at that moment.  This year, we had been ecstatic that our offices are only a hallway down from one another, and yet, we do not see each other as often as we could. This being m...
