Cuck-a-doodle-doo

As mentioned in the previous posts, I said I would take more photos around Taiwan. I could take the touristy photos of manicured and perfect landscapes, but that would only be one side of Taiwan. So instead, I've taken just random photos of the places I've visited over the weekend.
This is my roomie Kaiyo! We went on a little adventure at a place in Taipei we call Manila Town.
You can find all sorts of goodies from the Philippines and some things we don't find normally anywhere else in Taiwan such as Gatorade. Haha. Yes, they don't sell Gatorade in most stores in Taiwan.
So we got lost and walked in an alley and found a chain of markets. I thought I'd take a picture of this for you all to see. So that's a nice animal print dress on a mannequin that you see to your left. It's a small shop that sells dresses, scarves, and some dressy shoes. Right next to it is live chicken in the cage.
Cuck-a-doodle-doo! This is an upclose photo of the live chicken in the cage.
This is the after picture. That's fresh chicken meat friends. They butcher it and sell it fresh right on this table that is right next to the place that sells dresses. There are also jewelry shops and cosmetic shops along the same alley. This is Taiwan for you folks! Never a dull moment. Heehee.
This is a local food vendor.  I could not take an upclose photo cause the line was long. But I'm telling you, it's every single part of the chicken that's been cooked. It's reboiled again in some broth with noodles and most likely served in a plastic bag with a pair of chopsticks. You get to choose what parts you want to go with your noodles and there's a selection of vegetables that you can add.
This is a pretty normal sighting all throughout Taiwan.  There were some people there. I'm not exactly sure what happens here but I've seen at some locations, people making offerings and saying prayers.

So there guys, those are just some photos that have been taken over the weekend of the many sights and sounds of Taiwan. (I should record some videos of the noise in Taiwan.)  It shows the diversity that you find in Taiwan. I'll make a trip downtown this week for work and take pictures of the metro district with the skyscrapers and Taipei 101. You can pretty much find anything in Taiwan. It's awesome.
Have a great week everyone!
And stay tuned.... ;-)

Holiday KTV

"....Knock three times on the ceiling if you want me, oh, twice on the pipe, if the answer is no."  Remember that song that's always sung in karaoke bars everywhere? Well, it was sung beautifully last night yet again at the famous Taiwan Holiday KTV. This is something I've done a few times here in Taiwan that's easily become one of my top 10 must do in Taiwan. Yes, you can sing karaoke almost anywhere in the world, but what makes the Taiwan experience slightly different. So here's how it goes. KTV is a little different from most karaoke nights in the bars in the US. (Karaoke like the ones in the US would be referred to as OK in Taiwan, different from KTV) There are many different rooms with couches and a huge plasma screen tv where a party can go in and the rates are different for the number of hours that you stay. So for instance, last night there were about 11 of us friends (from Germany, Colombia, US, Palau) that went to a Holiday KTV. So we got in ...

Remembering the Struggle but Taking a Moment to Acknowledge a Win - LANY

This intervention was made during a UNDP Multi Country Programme Document Mid-Term Review at the UNDP Office in Suva, Fiji on May 14, 2025 while Shelley Remengesau and I accompanied Ms. Villaney Remengesau.  I share this a week after her successful election to the Committee on Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The fight never ends, but we can take a moment to acknowledge this win. Kudos to you.  The Scene: The review started half an hour late and when we walked in while Lany was being pushed in, the Palau flag was missing and they were wheeling Lany behind conference room chairs through a very narrow space to the end of the room with no easy access to exit. As the most senior official among us, I had to say something. So this is what I said..... "I was sitting here debating whether we should stay at this meeting or not. We are the only delegation with a person with a different ability who was pushed through a narrow hall to the end of the room, scanning all the beautiful ta...

1 Week Before Christmas

It's one week before Christmas and just when I was being selfish and thinking of all that I will be missing out on during the holidays season with my family and my local church, I failed to realize that there are others who are not even capable of thinking about Christmas because of their day-to-day problems. After what started off as a well-planned weekend that was supposed to be fun-filled, I heard news from home about someone very near and dear to my heart that just made my heart sink to places I had not imagined possible. I wish I was elsewhere right now, preferably home. I feel for he who feels that he has no one who cares about his well-being. I am caught between a rock and a hard place not knowing what to do. If I say something, I feel like I would be too forth-coming, if I don't say anything, I risk something worse happening. I think I will say something to the right people and hopefully help somehow. I never saw myself dealing with something like this. I have never had...
